Uruguayan Rice Milling Industry

Rice production and industrialization in Uruguay date back to the first decades of the 20th century

The Rice Millers’ Association groups together the main rice millers in Uruguay.

It is comprised by national, foreign and mixed capital companies. Mill members represent 85% of the rice produced in the country and are located in areas close to the rice fields.

The Uruguayan rice industry exports more than 95% of its production and is recognized worldwide for its high-quality products, complying with the most demanding international standards.

Integrated Rice Chain

The rice value chain integrates the agricultural and industrial phase and creates linkages with other sectors of the economy, such us: livestock, other agricultural activities, animal feed production and renewable energy generation.

Rice industry provides producers with certified seeds, financing, irrigation services, technical assistance, receipt and drying of rice, mutual hail insurance and supplies.

It works in an integrated manner with government authorities and organizations such as:
